Cold Applied Liquid Waterproofing

Cold Applied Liquid Waterproofing

Service Details

Cold applied liquid waterproofing is one of the most versatile roofing technologies available today, and Capital Roofing has been at the forefront of its adoption in the UK market. We have won and been shortlisted for numerous NFRC and LRWA awards for our liquid roofing work, and our teams have extensive experience with all the major liquid systems on the market.

A liquid waterproofing system consists of a cold-applied resin that is rolled or sprayed onto the roof surface to form a seamless, fully bonded membrane. The system cures in place to create a continuous waterproof layer with no joints, laps, or seams. This makes it ideal for roofs with complex shapes, numerous penetrations, or awkward details where sheet membranes would require difficult cutting and welding.

The key advantage of liquid waterproofing is its ability to conform to any shape. Curved surfaces, intricate upstand details, pipe penetrations, and irregular substrates are all handled without difficulty. The system can be applied to concrete, metal, timber, existing bitumen, asphalt, and single ply surfaces, making it an excellent choice for refurbishment projects where the existing roof build-up needs to be retained.

Because the system is cold applied, there is no need for hot works on site. This eliminates fire risk entirely, which is a significant consideration for occupied buildings such as schools, hospitals, and residential properties. The materials have low odour and low VOC content, which means they can be applied without disrupting the building's occupants.

We install liquid waterproofing systems from leading manufacturers including Triflex, Sika, Kemper, and Bauder. Each system has its own specific properties and is suited to different applications. We select the most appropriate system based on the substrate, the expected foot traffic, any thermal requirements, and the desired guarantee period. Guarantee periods of 20 to 25 years are standard with fully reinforced systems.

Balconies, walkways, and terraces are a particular strength of liquid waterproofing, because the system can incorporate anti-slip aggregates and withstand regular foot traffic. We have waterproofed hundreds of balconies on residential buildings across London, providing a clean, durable finish that protects the structure beneath.
