Pitched Roofing

Service Details

Pitched roofing is the backbone of the British built environment, and it has been at the core of what we do since Eric Peck founded Capital Roofing in 1968. Over more than 55 years we have worked on thousands of pitched roof projects, from Victorian terraces in Greenwich to large housing association estates across South East London and Kent.

A pitched roof, by definition, has a slope of more than 10 degrees. The steeper the pitch, the more effectively it sheds rainwater and resists the wind loads that London weather regularly delivers. Pitched roofs also provide natural ventilation space in the loft area, which helps regulate temperature and moisture levels within the building. For most residential properties and many commercial buildings, a well-constructed pitched roof remains the most durable, attractive, and cost-effective long-term solution.

We work with all major pitched roofing materials: natural slate, clay and concrete tiles, cedar shingles, and modern composite systems. The choice of material depends on the building's age, its location, planning requirements, and the client's budget. A Grade II listed building in Blackheath will have very different requirements from a new-build housing development in Dartford, and we have the experience to handle both with equal confidence.

Our pitched roofing teams include time-served tradespeople, many of whom trained through our own apprenticeship programme. Several of our roofers have competed at national and international level, including representation at the NFRC World Championships. That level of skill shows in the finished work, particularly on complex projects involving valleys, dormers, hip ends, and decorative ridge details.

We hold ISO 9001:2015 certification for quality management, which means every pitched roofing project follows documented procedures from initial survey through to final inspection and handover. Our NFRC Gold Safety Award, which we have held consecutively since 2004, reflects the care we take on every site.

Common pitched roofing work includes full re-roofs where the existing covering has reached the end of its service life, storm damage repairs, structural alterations to accommodate loft conversions, and new-build installations. We also carry out regular maintenance programmes for housing associations and local authorities, which helps extend roof life and catch small problems before they become expensive ones.

If you are planning a pitched roofing project in London or the surrounding counties, we are happy to visit, assess the existing roof, and provide a detailed written quotation with no obligation. Our office in Blackheath is well placed to reach sites across the capital quickly.
